This table will be part of the Euphoria of colours exhibition at the Espacio gallery in London, from the 22nd till the 27th of July.
An artistic collaboration between furniture artist, Jolanda from MissesTreeDesigns and photographer David from Photoglory – celebrating the life cycle of the Purple Emperor butterfly.
The Purple Emperor table is a unique handcrafted piece, created in collaboration with fine art photographer David. This sculptural table tells the enchanting story of the Purple Emperor butterfly, capturing each stage of its life cycle through detailed, symbolic design.
Beginning with a small sculpted bubble nestled between the table’s three gracefully shaped legs—representing the egg—the journey continues upward. A green caterpillar sits on a larger sculpted bubble, while the taller leg depicts the cocoon stage. The final transformation is celebrated on the tabletop itself, showcasing the butterfly in full, vibrant form. The height of this table is 78 cm and the diameter is 36 cm.
Adding a poetic layer to the piece, the three legs are inscribed with an original poem by Frank Oonk;
O, Goddes of a filthy empire
how did you manage to rise
from your former green self
to put on your dark attire?
Well, then, here you are, flat-out
stained with light to usher love in.
This statement table is beautifully paired with Madam Butterfly, a striking photograph by David, making the two works a perfect artistic match. Together, they create a harmonious dialogue between nature, craftsmanship, and visual storytelling—ideal for collectors, interior designers, and art lovers alike.
The Purple Emperor Table is more than furniture—it’s a celebration of metamorphosis, artistry, and collaboration.
